New scheme gives young people a sporting chance
A NEW scheme is giving youngsters in Redditch a sporting chance as pupils took part in a sport festival week.
The North Worcestershire and Redditch School Sport Partnership event was set up to increase the range of sports and numbers of school pupils involved in inter-school sport, with new school leagues organised by schools in the area.
Pupils experienced badminton, indoor rowing and futsal, an indoor version of football, as part of the week, with local clubs, Redditch Council and governing bodies for different sports providing coaches.
Vicci Webley, senior competition manager, said: "We hope to inspire more young people to take part in competition by providing a range of sports in these festival weeks where they will also be given advice and guidance on how to continue in sport beyond the school day.
"Competitive sport is a key part of the national school sport strategy, which aims to encourage all young people to maintain a lifelong participation in sport."
