Redditch looking for second win

REDDITCH will be looking to continue their good start to their Crusader Worcestershire County league premier campaign with a home game against Oldswinford on Saturday (1.30pm).

They travelled to Netherton and beat their hosts by nine wickets, restricting the Black Country side to 130-9 with Nev Mason taking 4-51 and Steve Merry 4-20. Redditch knocked off the total for a loss of only one wicket to continue their unbeaten start. But they will face a tough task against Oldswinford who are similarly unbeaten, and four points above them in the table. In the same division, Astwood Bank slipped to 151 all out and eventually lost to Bromyard by three wickets.

In division two, Alvechurch and Hopwood lost to Bewdley by six wickets, Jimmy Clifford hitting 57 in A and H's total of 212-9, but Bewdley passed the total for the loss of only four wickets.

Feckenham lost by one wicket in a thriller at Lye.

In the Birmingham League Division Three, Studley made a losing start at newcomers Lichfield, when they were skittled for 125 in reply to the home sides' 194-7.

Alcester and Ragley commenced their Cotswold Hills League league campaign with a disappointing loss away at Catherine de Barnes.

Ragley won the toss and elected to field and some tight bowling by all the first four bowlers restricted Barnes to 97-4 from the first 32 overs.

But this was doubled in the final 13 overs to 188-9, the pick of the A and R bowlers being the Readers brothers Geoff and Julian with 2-30 and 2-32 respectively.

Once Australian debutant Colin Devincentiis was out to a smart piece of stumping for 19 and Adam Peachey was dismissed, A and R found it diffuclt to keep up with the run rate and were dismissed for 159.

The seconds beat Winchcombe Seconds by 46 runs after posting 200-3 with fourteen year old Michael Bennett hitting an unbeaten 76. They then restricted Winchcombe to 154-8.

Cookhill made a dissapointing start to their Cotswold Hills division three campaign by suffering a five wicket defeat to Exhall and Wixford II.
