Lee is spot on
LEE Chilton was the hero for Alvechurch as they retained the Worcester Infirmary Cup after a disappointing final.
Chilton scored Alvechurch's first-half goal and kept his nerve to slot home the decisive penalty.
The shoot-out had initially summed up the quality of the game with the first five penalties failing.
Church had edged it in the first half with Westfields' Scott Jackson back-heeling a Chilton effort off his line in the 12th minute, but two minutes later Jamie Cuss sent a tremendous dipping 30-yarder off the Alvechurch bar.
Former West Brom youth right-back-turned-keeper Coney was almost embarrassed in the 25th minute when he misjudged a Daniel Moon long throw, allowing it to bounce over his head but the youngster recovered to prevent a Peter Enckelman moment.
The goal arrived in the 32nd minute when Ball showed his awareness to square rather than shoot in the area and Chilton swept the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.
Westfields came back strongly after the break with Coney sprawling to impress with a double save from Davis in the 54th minute.
In the 70th minute a Chilton effort almost squeezed through Pugh's arms and six minutes o, Coney held a Davis bicycle kick from a Prince cross.
Westfields looked to have paid the price for profligate finishing only to get an equaliser mired in controversy.
Having signalled to the fourth official there would be three minutes of added time, the clock was still running five minutes after the 90 as Pugh - the only Westfields player outside the Alvechurch box - sent in a hail Mary free-kick which bounced in the six-yard box appropriately prompting woeful Alvechurch right-back Sam Brooks to head into his own net.
After an uneventful first period of injury time, the otherwise lethargic Dave Brown could have settled it for the Churchmen a minute into the second period when his shot was pushed onto the right-hand post brilliantly by Pugh.
It was left to Chilton to settle matters on what appears to be his Alvechurch swansong.
Alvechurch: Joshua Coney, Sam Brooks, Wayne Brown, Scott Richards, Brendan Kelly, Craig Ball, Callum Gittings, Chris Bladen (Sam Wills, 88min), Dave Brown (Rickeal Manning 108), Jason Chilton, Lee Chilton. Subs not used: Sam Hawker, Gareth Davies, Tim Clarke (GK).
