New duo in
 |
| Action from Alvechurch v Westfields. |
ALVECHURCH have appointed playing duo Jamie McWilliams and Simon Redhead as joint managers for next season.
And they, or McWilliams at least, made an immediate impact with a 1-0 victory over Westfields in the Worcester Infirmary Cup at St George's Lane on Saturday.
McWilliams was the only one of the two present to see his new charges win the cup 3-2, with Lee Chilton decisive in the victory.
Chilton, who is a target for Hinckley United and trained with Yeovil Town last week, scored the opener and the decisive penalty which brought the third piece of silverware to Lye Meadow this season, with the youth team also winning the county cup.
McWilliams, a 27 year old forward who scored in the Worcestershire Senior Urn victory over Brierley Hill and Withymoor recently, has been with Alvechurch for four years.
He said he and Redhead plan to increase the size of the squad and target a high placed finish in the Midland Alliance next season.
He said: "We want to keep the nucleus of the squad from this season because they have done very well but we do need to add numbers.
"Both me and Simon have decent contacts in this area and throughout the Midlands at this level of non-league football.
"I can see us using these contacts because sometimes when you're competing with clubs of a similar budget, that is what it's all about.
"I am looking forward to the joint role with Simon and always had this sort of job in the back of my mind- I just didn't think it would come at this stage in my career.
"I plan to carry on playing as well as I am only 27 and feel I can contribute to the side.
"The game on Saturday was a bit nerve wracking at times, and not just because it was the first time I have sat on the bench, but because it was so close.
"But I enjoyed it and now I've got a taste for it I can't wait for next season to come around.
